Crossing the road

Crossing the road, something so simple, can bring so many emotions. This is something that fascinates me.
At first, I went with curiosity. I was looking for something you do often, something close to your first instinct, because the street has always been my playground. I felt like watching people crossing the road could be an interesting thing.
I got very obsessed… possibly one of my longest projects. Seven years, on and off.
Then one day, on the bus, I had this idea of making individual signs of people crossing the road, cutting out their silhouettes and placing the signs as close as possible to where I took the pictures. I imagined maybe the person would recognise themselves on the sign. This was a bit innocent of me. And not thinking about how media could twist, or cut out the context.
